Welcome to BSIR 2025

Matthew Gibson
Chairperson

As we set out to put together the scientific programme for this year’s BSIR ASM, the entire programme committee is buoyed by the success of last year’s meeting. Our community came together in greater numbers than ever before to share their knowledge and push our field forwards.

At BSIR 2024 in Brighton, the many insightful discussions between IRs of all ages inspired us to once again put together a programme that caters to interventionists at all stages of their careers, from medical students to junior doctors and trainees to established interventional radiologists. Another good portion of the programme will be tailored specifically to radiographers and nurses, an essential part of every IR team.

This year, the programme will particularly focus on one of the most critical aspects of our work: patient safety, which is at the heart of all that we do. Every procedure, every decision we make, hinges on our ability to safeguard those in our care. We will explore the latest innovations and protocols designed to mitigate risks and ensure the highest standards of care.

To compliment the focus on safety another highlight of BSIR 2025 will be a series of sessions on emergency IR treatment. This series will include the treatment of vascular, gastro intestinal, and genitourinary emergencies, trauma and iatrogenic complications.

Last but not least, we will delve into the treatment of chronic limb-threatening ischaemia – a topic that will continue to increase in importance as the incidence of peripheral arterial disease rises the world over.

I am personally also very much looking forward to the extensive masterclass series which by way of seminar-style teaching in small groups provides an ideal opportunity to ask some of the top experts in their field questions and engage in a lively debate on a wide range of topics, from safe sedation, benign embolization, nerve blocks, vascular access, and everything in between.

BSIR 2025 will also be a great opportunity to catch up with our industry partners. Various satellite symposia will offer us insights into the latest product data and a vibrant exhibition will give us the chance to discuss opportunities to advance patient care.

I very much look forward to welcoming you to Liverpool for BSIR 2025 for three days of knowledge sharing, learning, and growing our specialty together!
